Atheists & Atheism
To begin to understand the words atheist and atheism you might want to first read their definitions (provided by Dictionary.com):
atheist

atheism

2. Godlessness.
Notice the root 'doctrine' of each of these definitions: disbelief.
Atheists & Christians:
As Christians are referred to as 'believers' it would appear that atheists could be referred to as 'disbelievers' (not to be confused with the lost or 'nonbelievers').
The fact that they disbelieve in God does not give their atheism credibility; denying the Word of God does not disprove it. When atheists stand before God (and they will, Revelations 20:12 states: "And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.") they will discover the sobering truth of Matthew 10:33 (But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.).
Since the atheist deny that God exists, one would wonder how the atheist comes to the conclusion that God doesn't exist when their very existence proves that He does!
An example of their hypocrisy would be denying that an atheist's mother was, in fact, their mother. Denying her motherhood or even her existence doesn't make it a fact, once again it shows that denial is used to explain away the truth.
So how would a loving God treat an atheist on earth? Same as He would the rest of the world as Romans 3:23 tells us: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. This being the case then even the atheist would have to agree that someone would have to pay the price for mankind. And Someone did pay the price, the ultimate price for us when He laid Himself upon a wooden cross. Atheists could deny the fact that Jesus gave His life for them, but that doesn't make it a fact.
Remember that Christians are commanded to be soul-winners and Jesus plainly told us in Matthew 18:11 For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost. So what to do with the atheist? As the image below depicts, point them to the cross and the Savior who paid for the sins of the world.
