Evangelism Training For Missions Trips

If you, your church, or your ministry are involved in missions work then you already realize the need for training. Besides the obvious missions training required you have training for domestic missions and for overseas missions. Each of theses outreach scenarios require different commitments from missionary and evangelistic training leadership.

Don't consider yourself a 'missionary'? Here's two different definitions of the word 'missionary':

missionary used as a noun: a person sent by a church into an area to carry on evangelism or other activities, as educational or hospital work.

missionary used as a adjective: pertaining to or connected with religious missions or engaged in such a mission, or devoted to work connected with missions.

Domestic Evangelism and Mission Training

Without a doubt domestic outreach programs are both simpler to implement as well as easy to evangelize to the demographics group focused upon. Domestic evangelism is the easiest to put into motion for several reasons:

  • Normally no language barriers to overcome for evangelism training.
  • Domestic travel is both less expensive and less restrictive that overseas mission trips.
  • Local outreach partners are normally easier to recruit for domestic evangelistic training programs.

Overseas Evangelism and Outreach

Although conducting overseas based evangelistic work has its drawbacks in the form of language barriers, expense for travel, missionary travel restrictions due to local and national regulations. And then there are some countries where missionaries are not wanted due to established non-Christian cults and 'religions' that do not want Christian evangelists telling people in their area about Jesus Christ.

Overseas mission trips generally produce some of the following results:

  • Unusually large groups of people will attend evangelism crusades produce by American missionaries.
  • Unlike environments in the United States overseas evangelism training sessions are both welcome and sought after for the local schools. Children of all ages are overseas are eager to learn about Jesus and hunger for training in the Word of God.
  • Government officials in foreign lands are also open to outreach programs and are unrestricted by the so-called 'separation of church and state' fallacy that exists in the United States.
